Ilian Iliev: I will resign, the Bulgarian Football Union will decide how to proceed - 1

The head coach of PFC Cherno More Ilian Iliev gave a special interview to BNT on the occasion of the scandals that have arisen in Bulgarian football in the last few days.

"Pandora's Box" was opened with the draw for the semi-finals of the Bulgarian Football Cup, which caused dissatisfaction mainly among the people of Varna and CSKA, and very soon after, the president of the Bulgarian Football Union Atanas Karaivanov demanded Iliev's resignation as the national football team coach.

In response to Karaivanov, the coach of the "sailors" replied that he would resign, but would also sue the member of the BFU Executive Committee.

In front of BNT, Iliev stated that his decision is final, but the Bulgarian Football Union has the last word.

"First of all, I must say that certainly no one has gained from all that has happened. We were the initiators as a club, and I as a person had to respond to the very unpleasant attacks," he began.

"Especially regarding the question you asked, I think that the question here is one of principle. Yes, we spoke with Georgi Ivanov, commented on everything, he said what you said, but in response to Karaivanov I said that if he wants it, I will submit my resignation at a normal time and then the BFU will decide how to proceed", confirmed the specialist.

Iliev is categorical that if the Bulgarian Football Union accepts his resignation, he will not lead the playoff matches with the Republic of Ireland for the Nations League.

"As I promised, I will submit my resignation. Now in the BFU, if they accept it or not, it will be clear in the future. The question is of principle, we cannot say "yes" or "no". The issue is already being discussed, but I promised Karaivanov in my statement, in response to his attacks, that things are over," the Cherno More coach emphasized.

The specialist rejected some of the attacks of the president of the Professional League, stating that combining two functions does not interfere with his work, and that he has never manipulated the choice of referees in Cherno More matches.

He also commented on another scandal that developed with his participation, namely the verbal attacks he had with Levski player Maikon.

"The most elementary thing when you lose a match with some of your actions is to divert attention from the essence of the problem. "Let's leave football aside and start justifying possible mistakes on the other side, that Ilian Iliev is guilty of hitting Maicon and all the other nonsense that was not part of the match," said Ilian Iliev.
