Earlier today, Brighton eliminated Newcastle in the same competition as a guest. Striker Danny Welbeck scored in extra time as Brighton beat Newcastle 2-1 as a guest in the round of 16 of the Football Association Cup (FA).
The regular time of the match at "St. James's Park" ended in a 1-1 draw. Alexander Isak put the hosts ahead in the score in the 22nd minute from a penalty awarded for a foul on Yankuba Minteh. However, the Ghana international made up for his mistake a minute before half-time after an assist from Joao Pedro.
Anthony Gordon left Newcastle a man down in the 83rd minute when he was sent off with a straight red card, but the number on the pitch was equalized shortly afterwards. In added time, Tariq Lamptey received a second yellow card and Newcastle scored from the ensuing foul, but the goal was disallowed for offside.
Welbeck decided the outcome of the match in the 114th minute. The former Manchester United and Arsenal striker received a pass from Solly Marsh on a counterattack and sent the ball into the Newcastle net for the final 2-1.
