The Italian Yannick Sinner defended his title at the Australian Open tennis championship. In the battle for the trophy in Melbourne, the 23-year-old Sinner prevailed over Alexander Zverev from Germany after 6:3, 7:6 (4), 6:3 in 2:45 hours, BTA reported.
The world number 1 showed a stable game and did not give his opponent a single chance to break. Sinner triumphed at the Australian Open in 2024, but then he had a much more difficult match against Daniil Medvedev from Russia. Sinner started the match steadily and had a break point at 2:1 in his favor. However, Zverev managed to cope and tied the score at 2:2.
The two showed strong nerves in their serves until 4:3 in favor of Sinner. Then it was Zverev's turn to serve again, but he had significant difficulties. The German even made a mistake at the net for the first time, and after the third deuce Sinner managed to break through for 5:3. The Italian was categorical on serve and closed this first set with 6:3 and only 46 minutes of play.
In the second part, Zverev's mistakes continued to pile up from the beginning. At 1:1, however, he had 18 missed balls compared to only 8 for his opponent at the time. A double fault by the German led to 15-40, but in the end Zverev led 2:1 after a 6-minute game. After that, both were strong in their serves, which led to 6:6 and a tiebreak. In it, Zverev first took the advantage, but later lost concentration and gave up at 4, which already left him two sets behind.
In the third part, Siner left no doubt about his superiority. The Italian took a breakthrough for 4:2 and then categorically closed the set with 6:3 and defended his title from last year.
