Elfin Evans regains lead in Rally Sweden - 1

Elfin Evans regained the lead in Rally Sweden, after he and Scott Martin lost their lead twice on the second day. The two are now 0.6 seconds ahead, BTA reports.

Evans and Martin were first overtaken by the Japanese Takamoto Katsuta – also with Toyota, then by Ot Tenak with Hyundai, but dominated the last three special stages. Their time so far is 1:08.36 hours. Second is Katsuta, who is in a crew with Irish navigator Aaron Johnston. Third place went to Tenak, who was 1.9 seconds behind.

Katsuta took the lead on the fifth special stage, Evans fought back a stage later, before losing to Tänak's flying Hyundai i20 N on the seventh speed stage, dropping to third place overall.

The final stage was just 5.1km long, but that was enough for Evans to finish as the leader. The Welshman started the day in excellent form, with temperatures reaching -12°C, holding the pace for the early stages of the day. Snow cover was everywhere on the course, but Evans showed at the end of the day that he had adapted best.
