Arsenal midfielder Mikel Merino (left) scored two late goals to keep his team's hopes of the Premier League title alive. He brought the victory 2-0 over Leicester in a match from the 25th round of the Premier League, reports BTA.
Merino had to appear in the role of a central striker after injuries caught up with everyone in the attack in Mikel Arteta's team and in the 81st and 87th minutes he sent the ball into the Foxes' net.
Merino scored twice with his headers, first breaking the goalless draw in the 81st minute. The Spanish midfielder rose in the penalty area to head in a cross from teenager Ethan Nwaneri from the right. Six minutes later, he headed the ball into the back post after Leandro Trossar had passed it to him, taking advantage of Leicester's passive defence.
In the second half, Nwaneri also hit the post, but Arsenal's play lacked intensity for most of the match. The game was heading towards 0-0, but Merino's goals brought relief to manager Mikel Arteta, who is looking to keep pace with leaders Liverpool.
