The legendary president of Portuguese football club Porto Pinto da Costa has died at the age of 87, the country's media reported. He led the club for 42 years - from 1982 to 2024, and turned it from a local to a European giant. His management is associated with the two European Champions Cups won, as well as the construction of a club that dominates the European scene, BTA reports.
"A sad day for the world of football. Pinto da Costa has just passed away at the age of 87 after a long battle with cancer, which has worsened in recent days," Porto announced. Pinto da Costa was replaced in the post in 2024. by André Villas-Boas at a meeting of the club's members held on May 28.
His management is connected with the attraction of two emblematic Bulgarian footballers who wore the blue and white jersey of the team. These are Emil Kostadinov and Petar Mihtarski, who left a serious mark with their performance.
