Liverpool captain: We won't bend mentally in the battle for the title in England

Captain Virgil van Dijk is convinced that Liverpool's players will not bend mentally during the long race for the title in the English championship, BTA reported.

A 2-1 victory against Wolverhampton at the weekend returned the "Reds" to the winning path, but the team did not look convincing and almost dropped points in the second round of the Premier League in a row.

"We are all human and I understand that at times there can be nerves and hesitations. I said a few weeks ago that we just have to fasten our seatbelts and enjoy the adventure. We can't get away with everything, there are many challenges," Van Dijk said, quoted by the DPA news agency.

"If we are not ready for what is coming, and we have already experienced it, it will be a difficult two months. However, I have the feeling that the team is ready for the final march. We will give our all in the last 13 games and after they are over we will find out if we have done enough. We look ahead match by match and we don't care what the others do. We have absolutely no influence on the other teams and what happens to them".

Liverpool may not have a direct influence on the pursuers Arsenal, but on Wednesday the Merseysiders can deal a psychological blow to their rival with a victory against Aston Villa. If they win their drawn match in the Premier League, the "Reds" will lead by double figures. Van Dijk, however, has experience with such a thing, as his team has previously led by ten points but failed to become champions.

Liverpool had a similar lead in January 2019, but Pep Guardiola's team has won 18 of their last 19 matches. Thus, Jurgen Klopp's "Reds" finished second with a record number of points - 97.

"I can't speak for the rest of the team. I can only say what I think. I can also tell them that I have been in a similar situation twice and the title has eluded us both times. Our only job is to focus and try to win every game. If we do that, then we will succeed," the Dutch defender also said.

"We have to put all our energy into it, and that is not easy. You saw how difficult it was against Wolves on Wednesday, and it will happen again.

Meanwhile, Liverpool have "frozen" ticket prices for the eighth time in the last ten years after a lengthy consultation with fans, the club announced. The Merseysiders have received nearly 62,000 responses to the inquiry and the tickets in the autumn will be at this season's prices.
