PSV Eindhoven is in the round of 16 in the Champions League after a 3:1 victory against Juventus after extra time, FOCUS reported. The Dutch champion advanced after a 4:3 aggregate score, after losing the first leg in Italy.
In the first half, both teams rarely created chances.
PSV took the lead in the 53rd minute. Ivan Perisic scored with a diagonal shot after a long pass from Noah Lang.
Juventus equalized in the 63rd minute. Timothy Weah was accurate with a powerful shot from the edge of the penalty area. The goal was initially disallowed for offside by Lloyd Kelly before that, but referee Slavko Vinčić then ruled that the defender had not influenced the situation.
In the 74th minute, PSV took the lead again. Ismael Saibari was accurate after being left uncovered in the goal area. The home team pressed until the end, but Juventus held on.
In the extra time, PSV's pressure continued. Juventus goalkeeper Michele Di Gregorio saved a shot by Saibari. In the 97th minute, the home team reached a third goal. Yoann Bakayoko crossed, Federico Gatti tried to clear, Di Gregorio also deflected the ball, which reached Ryan Flamingo, who was accurate for 3:1. At the end of the first extra time, Dušan Vlahović from Juventus hit the post.
In the second extra time, Kefren Thuram tried a shot for the visitors, but was unsuccessful. Juventus were never able to press, and at the end of the extra time, Di Gregorio saved his team from another goal after a shot by Guus Till.
In the round of 16, PSV will meet either Inter or Arsenal, the draw for this phase is on Friday.
