A misunderstanding interrupted the match between Celta Viga and Osasuna in La Liga, Reuters reported, BTA reported.
This happened after Osasuna goalkeeper Sergio Herrera showed a metal object to the referee at the match, who mistakenly decided that it was thrown from the stands. Herrera specified after the match that it was a piece of the goal post that was broken in one place.
"I want to clarify the misunderstanding with the object that I brought to the referee. It was a piece of the post that broke off and posed a risk," the footballer wrote on his Instagram profile. "I warned the referee to check this. At no point have I complained about the Celta fans, for whom I am explaining the situation. I have nothing to reproach them with, they supported their team," added Herrera.
According to the media, referee Sánchez Martínez asked the match delegate to warn the stadium radio system that the fans should not throw objects on the pitch when the match was briefly interrupted after half an hour of play.
Iago Aspas scored from the penalty spot in the second half, which brought Celta a 1-0 victory in the match.
