Swiss alpine skier Niels Hintermann announced that he had overcome lymph node cancer after months of treatment and intends to return to the sport, BTA reported.
Hintermann, winner of three World Cup races, publicly revealed the diagnosis in October and underwent chemotherapy.
"I did it! I am so happy with the result - I am cancer-free", wrote the 29-year-old Hintermann on his Instagram account. "It wasn't always easy, but of course I'm very happy that this time is over and that I have a clear goal again, even though the path to get there is not entirely clear," he added.
The speed specialist told Swiss newspaper Blick that he plans to return to skiing in the summer after he starts training again. "My goal is to be able to get back on the glacier in August," Hintermann said.
