Malena Zamfirova won second place in the parallel giant slalom event of the Snowboard World Cup round in Krynica, Poland, while Tervel Zamfirov remained in fourth place in the men's event, BTA reported.
Zamfirova, just 15, took part in a World Cup competition for the first time in her career after overcoming the qualifications in the morning with the 13th time. She defeated Dutchwoman Michelle Decker by 1.01 seconds and Ukrainian Annamarie Dancha in succession to earn a place in the final four.
In the semifinals, Zamfirova prevailed by 0.27 seconds against Olympic bronze medalist in the event Ramona Hofmeister and secured a fight for the gold. However, the Bulgarian lost by 0.43 seconds to world champion Tsubaki Miki. She was also first in the qualifications.
Tervel Zamfirov passed two Italians in the men's race, first beating Aaron Mark by 0.25 seconds and then overtaking Mirko Felicetti by 0.96. In the semifinals, the Bulgarian lost to Austrian Andreas Promeger, then failed to finish in the small final against Korean Kim Sangkyum.
The parallel giant slalom competition continues on March 15 in Winterberg, Germany, where the final round of the season will be held.
