Bozhidar Saraboyukov admitted: I did not expect to become a champion

Bozhidar Saraboyukov glorified Bulgaria again after bringing a historic European title for our country in the long jump at the championship in Apeldoorn, the Netherlands. Bozhidar made a great last attempt of 8.13 meters, which brought him a gold medal, BTA reports.

“I thank my coach, the entire team behind me for this success. I thank the Athletics Federation and the Ministry of Youth and Sports. To everyone who makes this possible“, he said.

“I feel really happy with this success. I would have been satisfied only with a medal at such a big championship. I didn't expect to become a champion, but apparently God was with me“, added Saraboyukov.

“I was very good physically in the warm-up. I remember that my attempts were cautious, not like in past tournaments this season. I did completely different jumps. When the sixth attempt came, I said to myself all or nothing, because it was better to have a strong attempt even with a foul than a weak attempt without a foul. The result may not be the best for this season, but I gave my maximum in this last attempt“, added the athlete.

“We still have the World Indoor Championships, then they invited me to a tournament in Saudi Arabia, where, however, I will not chase results like at the World Championships. Then I hope to prepare well for the summer, when new important competitions are coming up”, concluded Saraboyukov.
