Victoria Tomova was eliminated in the second round of the Indian Wells women's tournament, after losing to Greek Maria Sakari 0:6, 3:6 in just 71 minutes. The hard-court tournament has a prize pool of almost $9 million, BTA reports.
In the first round, Tomova eliminated Serbian Olga Danilovic (43rd in the rankings) 6:2, 6:3, but she had no particular chance against the Greek. This was the sixth meeting between the two, with Sakari having five wins to Tomova's one.
Victoria started the match very poorly and gave up her first serve to nil without even winning a point. At 0:3, she served again, saved two break points, but surrendered the third. The scenario did not change until the end of the part, but at the beginning of the second she tried a turnaround.
The 30-year-old Tomova started with a break, but allowed it to be returned immediately. Then she returned to the match with another break for 2:3, but until the end Sakari asserted her supremacy. The curious thing is that in the entire second part a total of two serves were won and there were seven breaks. In the third round Sakari will play the winner of the match Coco Goff (USA) – Moyuka Uchijima (Japan).
