The American automaker announced that the use of cheaper batteries will allow Tesla to launch the most affordable electric car in its model line. CEO Elon Musk also abruptly decided that Tesla should double down on its use of artificial intelligence and autonomous driving, mainly in light of the development of a self-driving car under the working name Robotaxi.
According to several sources, Tesla's affordable electric cars will be developed based on the Model 3 and Model Y. It is noted that the new products should see the world as early as the first half of 2025.
„Plans for new vehicles, including more affordable models, extend to the first half of 2025. These vehicles will use elements of the next-generation platform as well as parts of our current platforms and will be able to be produced on the same production line as our current line of vehicles, the company said in a statement.
Earlier, Tesla said that production of new cars will start in the second half of next year. The automaker also added that the strategy of maximum unification will allow to increase the annual production of electric cars to 3 million units. But the question is: Will there be that many customers?
