Renault's chief designer Gilles Vidal explained what the interior of future Renault models will be like. in particular the electric cars of the future generation. According to him, Renault will radically rethink its approach to interior design, introducing modern new technologies to improve usability.

In an interview with Autocar, the head of design of the French brand, Gilles Vidal, shared the company's plans for the future. “We will offer revolutionary solutions in almost everything, including the interior and the interaction of the car with the user,”, explained Vidal, detailing the cockpit of the radical Embleme concept, which will receive a production version in 2028.

Renault says the show car's interior marks a sharp departure from the brand's current production interiors, with a clear focus on digitization and touch control, but alongside a new approach to ergonomics and a prioritization of driver and passenger safety.

The main difference in the interior of the new generation of Renault cars will be the integration of a large display that includes three separate screens and covers the entire width of the dashboard. It will allow you to operate the OpenR infotainment system from Renault.

„We also want to add more physical buttons on top. We will create a hierarchy between all the things you need to do in the car. For the next generation of interiors, we need to understand what is smart to do as a button in terms of the evolution of cars and their use. We will leave as many physical buttons as possible “, Gilles Vidal also says.

According to him, the company is aiming for a mix of physical and digital controls, including volume control and tactile buttons for infotainment systems.

„We see that some brands are obsessed with putting all the controls on screens, but maybe that's not very good in terms of simplicity, understanding every setting you need to make in the car and safety,” he added.

Vidal claims Renault's new interiors will offer a balance between visibility and accessibility, with the display screens positioned in front of the touchscreen to avoid unnecessary distraction. Audio systems will also play an important role and the company will develop an attractive design for the speakers instead of hiding them.

In addition, the audio will also have a prominent volume control button and the ability to voice control thanks to an artificial intelligence assistant. By the way, users will be able to bring up the information they need very quickly and easily on each of the three screens thanks to widgets including weather forecasts, speed indicators and music players that can be moved from the central touchscreen of each other in one move.
