50 more Chinese companies fall under US sanctions - 1

The new US administration continues to expand the export control list to include new companies and organizations suspected of supporting China's military-industrial complex. This week, about 80 more companies and institutions were added to it, more than 50 of which are located in China, including subsidiaries of server equipment manufacturer Inspur.

As Reuters notes, in addition to Chinese companies, companies from Taiwan, Iran, Pakistan, South Africa and the UAE were added to the US export control list this week. Some of them are suspected of cooperating with companies previously included in the export control list, for example, with China's Huawei Technologies. The US government's actions have again drawn criticism from Chinese diplomats, who have accused the US of using national security concerns to achieve technological and commercial goals.

Placing companies on the US export control list means their suppliers will have to apply for an export license from the Commerce Department, which they are unlikely to receive. Inspur's parent company was placed on the US export control list in 2023, but now its subsidiaries are also subject to sanctions. The new list also includes Chinese companies that the US side suspects of helping Chinese authorities build supercomputers. Some of them have also acted as contractors for China's Sugon, which was placed on the US export control list in 2019. Supplies of components for quantum computers developed in China have also become the basis for the inclusion of individual Chinese companies on the sanctions list.
