Ukrainian military intelligence claims to have set fire to the Russian missile ship "Serpukhov" at the base of the Baltic Fleet in the city of Baltiysk, which led to the decommissioning of the ship, reports the BBC.
There are no reports from the Russian side about the fire on the ship "Serpukhov".
On Monday, the Main Intelligence Directorate (GUR) of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine published a message on social networks about a fire on April 7 on the ship "Serpukhov" located at the base in Baltiysk in the Kaliningrad Region. The message does not directly say that the fire is a consequence of the GUR operation, but ends with the words "Thunderbolts have no boundaries. To be continued".
At the same time, many Ukrainian publications, citing the same anonymous "own source in the special services", wrote that the fire was the result of an operation by Ukrainian intelligence.
In press releases and a press release, the GUR claimed that it had destroyed the ship's communication and automation equipment and that it would take a long time to restore it.
The small rocket ship "Serpukhov" is one of the new ships of the Russian Navy: it was launched in 2015, the first years it was part of the Black Sea Fleet, then it was transferred to the Baltic Sea. The ship can carry up to eight cruise missiles.
We recall that on March 24, 2024, the Ukrainian Air Force (Air Force) carried out a number of strikes on the Black Sea Fleet located in Sevastopol, Crimea. One of the main objects of the attack was the communications center of the fleet.
As a result of the strikes, two ships of the "Ropucha" class, tankers and one reconnaissance ship of the "Yurii Ivanov" class were affected. The VSU published a message about this without details on social networks. "As a result of the massive missile attack on the annexed Sevastopol on Saturday against Sunday, infrastructure objects were damaged and the landing ships "Yamal" were sunk. and "Azov". However, this information has not been independently confirmed.
On April 2, Russia appointed Admiral Alexander Moiseyev as the Chief of Naval Forces. He replaces Admiral Nikolay Evmenov.
