Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan told the press in Washington after the NATO summit that Istanbul could host the NATO summit in 2026. Erdogan said a decision had not yet been made answer. However, he believes that Istanbul would be the ideal place for such a significant event, BTA reports.

The next NATO meeting will be held in June 2025 in The Hague, Netherlands.

Discussions on the choice of a host city for the 2026 summit continue. Erdogan expressed confidence in Istanbul's ability to organize an event of this magnitude.

Erdogan mentioned Turkey's aspirations to renew the Black Sea Grain Export Agreement, aiming to renegotiate the deal in Istanbul, where it was originally signed in July 2022. Erdogan also revealed Turkey's ambition to move from an observer to a full member of The Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), highlighting the country's active participation in the SCO summit in Astana earlier this July.

Turkey's strategic moves on the international stage underscore its aspirations to play a key role in shaping global affairs.
