Ukraine expects to become a member of the European Union in a shorter period of time than anticipated. This requires persistence. This was commented by the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky in a documentary film about the country's prospects, RBC-Ukraine reports, as quoted by Focus.
Zelensky states that when Ukraine received the status of a candidate for EU membership, he held a meeting with all the leaders of the member states. Most of them have warned him that "6-8 years will pass from the application to the negotiations, and from the negotiations to the EU membership – 10 years."
"I am sure that we will go through all these stages and be in the EU sooner than expected. If we continue to act decisively and persistently", the president emphasizes.
He draws attention to the fact that Ukraine has already adopted a number of laws "which EU countries have been adopting for years" due to internal disputes and power struggles. In Ukraine, this stage was "not noticed", as it was "accelerated."
