Poland discusses repealing asylum rights - 1

At today's meeting, the Polish government will discuss the temporary cancellation of the right to grant asylum, as well as a strategy to control illegal migration, DPA reported.

On Saturday, Prime Minister Donald Tusk announced at a meeting of his ruling “Civil Coalition” that he plans to at least temporarily cancel the right to grant asylum.

„The country must regain 100% control over who enters Poland,” he said, adding that he will fight for recognition of this decision in the European Union. At the same time, he did not provide any details about possible new measures.

In Brussels, a spokesman for the European Commission noted that according to the rules of the union, member states are obliged to provide access to asylum procedures to those who wish.

Poland and the European Union accuse Russian President Vladimir Putin and his ally - the leader of Belarus, Alexander Lukashenko, of deliberately directing migrants from countries in crisis to the Polish-Belarusian border, which is also external to the EU.
