A twenty-nine-year-old citizen of Uzbekistan has been detained on suspicion of the murder of Russian General Igor Kirillov, the Federal Security Service (FSB) of Russia announced today, quoted by TASS and Reuters, BTA reported.
The head of the Russian troops for radiation, chemical and biological protection - Lieutenant General Kirillov, and his assistant - Major Polikarpov, died in an explosion yesterday morning on "Ryazansky Prospekt" in the capital Moscow.
"As a result of our joint operational-investigative actions with the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the Investigative Committee of Russia, a citizen of the Republic of Uzbekistan, born in 1995, who planted an improvised explosive device in a residential building on "Ryazansky Prospekt" in Moscow, as a result of which (...) Lieutenant General Kirillov and (...) Major Polikarpov died," the FSB press center reported today.
According to information from the Russian authorities, the suspect said that he had been recruited by Ukrainian intelligence services, Reuters noted. He was promised $100,000 and asylum in an EU country, the FSB press center also said, quoted by TASS. The suspect has been handed over to the investigators, the Investigative Committee of Russia (IC) announced.
