The national currency of Turkey - the Turkish lira, today reached a historic low of 35.1 Turkish liras per 1 US dollar, Turkish media reported, quoted by BTA.
Yesterday, one dollar was exchanged for 34.9 per lira. The exchange rate, which for the first time exceeded the level of 35 liras per dollar, caused strong concern in the markets, notes the economic publication borsametre.
In 2024, the Turkish lira depreciated by more than 18 percent, and last year the lira lost nearly 25 percent of its value. Market participants surveyed earlier this year by the Turkish Central Bank predicted that the exchange rate of the national currency at the end of 2024 would be 37.7 Turkish liras per dollar.
