US redirects $100 million in military aid to Lebanon to support ceasefire - 1

In its final days, the administration of US President Joe Biden is redirecting more than $100 million in military aid from Israel and Egypt to Lebanon, trying to support the ceasefire agreement in which it played a key role as a mediator between Israel and "Hezbollah," the Associated Press reported, quoted by BTA.

In separate messages sent to the U.S. Congress, the U.S. State Department announced it was transferring $95 million in military aid intended for Egypt and $7.5 million in aid to Israel to support the Lebanese army and government.

The messages, dated Jan. 3, were obtained by the AP today.

The bulk of the funds will go to the Lebanese Armed Forces, which have played a crucial role in maintaining a ceasefire agreed to last November after a two-month war that has gripped much of southern and eastern Lebanon.
