Romanian Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu said that in 2025, over 200 km of highways and expressways are scheduled to be put into operation, reports the Agerpres agency, quoted by BTA.

“In the field of road construction, we are starting the year at the pace of 2024 with the first submitted bids for the Focsani-Brăila expressway project. This is a vital project that connects the "Moldova" highway with the suspension bridge over the Danube (near Brăila) and then provides a connection between (counties) Tulcea and Constanța“, said Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu at the beginning of the government meeting today. He added that this project is worth over one billion euros.

According to him, the government's goal for this year is to complete all major road projects currently underway and to open over 200 km of roads within a year.

The National Road Infrastructure Investment Company announced on its Facebook page that associations and companies from Romania, Bulgaria and Italy have submitted five bids for the tender for the award of the contract for the design and implementation of the Focsani-Brăila expressway. The Bulgarian company “Trace Group Hold“ is participating in the tender.

The contract for this investment, financed with European funds, is worth 5.3 billion lei (one euro is exchanged for 4.97 Romanian lei). The implementation period is 42 months, of which six months for the design and 36 months for the implementation phase.

The Focsani-Brăila expressway is 73 km long. It was put up for auction in a single lot, making it the longest expressway to be built under a single contract, Agerpres notes.

In 2024, nearly 200 km of motorways and expressways were put into operation in Romania, including over 100 km of the "Moldova" motorway (A7), which connects southern and northern Romania, Romanian media reported at the end of last year.

Romania's expressway network now consists of over 1,280 km, the Romanian section of Radio Free Europe wrote.
