The road conditions in Northern Greece remain complicated due to icy roads. New cameras with automatic fines for violators are being installed in the Attica region, BNR reported.
There are many icy sections of roads in Northern Greece, police warn. They have stopped traffic even from Thessaloniki to the outer districts of the city. There is a traffic ban from Thessaloniki to parts of Halkidiki. The snow has stopped, but temperatures are low. Truck traffic has been allowed on the central highway "Egnatia Odos". Heavy rains flooded the streets in the Peloponnese and Evia.
The Ministry of Transport reports that over a thousand new traffic cameras are being installed throughout the Attica region. These cameras record every violation and the data is transferred to the traffic police. The fines will be issued immediately electronically and are virtually impossible to erase. They will be sent electronically to offenders. Foreigners will pay them before leaving the country. The new system allows police to locate wanted individuals, experts said.
