Syria's de facto leader Ahmed al-Sharaa has been appointed as transitional president, the Syrian state news agency SANA reported today, citing military commander Hassan Abdel Ghani.
Al-Sharaa has also been authorized to form a transitional legislative council that will carry out its tasks until the adoption of a new constitution.
The announcements were made during a meeting in Damascus attended by commanders of armed groups that have been fighting alongside Al-Sharaa's "Hayat Tahrir al-Sham" to oust Bashar al-Assad, Reuters reported.
