The Russian offensive in Donetsk Region has slowed down somewhat, and in Velika Novosilska the Russian forces are caught in a kind of "bag". This was commented by the director of the information and consulting company Defense Express Sergey Zgurets on the air of the Espresso TV channel.

"If we now look at the dynamics of the fighting, it is a little lower. There is progress by Russia in the areas somewhere within 200 sq. km, which is two times less than in December and three times less than in November", the expert said.

According to him, now Velika Novosilska will be the element in which the situation will be resolved depending on who will have more strength and cunning. He notes that the 8th Russian Army is currently stationed there, and if it moves towards the Pokrovskoye direction, this will lead to an even greater intensification of military operations there after some time.

Zgurets recalls that on that day, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky appointed Mykhailo Drapatiy as commander of the operational-strategic group “Khortitsa“ and he will be responsible for the area stretching from Kupyansk to the Limanskoye direction and to Bolshaya Novosilka, and these are now the most problematic directions. “Maybe we will see some positives, but these are not quick actions that will happen tomorrow,” Zgurets adds. In his opinion, it is important to stop the Russian forces now.
