Alexander Ogloblin, a former Russian major general, will be tried on charges of taking a large-scale bribe. He received 12 million rubles ($120,000) from a telecommunications company as an incentive to win contracts from the Russian Defense Ministry. This is stated in a report by the British Ministry of Defense distributed on the social network X, RBC-Ukraine reports.
The former Russian major general has a previous, active conviction. In February 2022, he was sentenced to 4.5 years in prison and stripped of his rank in connection with other charges of embezzlement of 1.6 billion rubles of budget funds.
It was previously reported that on January 17, 2025, the former commander of the 1st Special Purpose Air and Missile Defense Army of the Russian Aerospace Forces, Konstantin Ogienko, was sentenced to eight years in prison for attempting to receive a large-scale bribe. He was also stripped of his rank of major general.
According to British intelligence, "widespread corruption in the Russian Ministry of Defense and the defense industry as a whole significantly undermines the effectiveness of the Russian armed forces".

"It is extremely unlikely that the Russian authorities will be able to significantly reduce the level of corruption among the Russian military", the British Ministry of Defence said.
RBK-Ukraine recalls that after his first conviction, Oglobin was released early after testifying against his former boss, Deputy Chief of the General Staff and Head of the Main Communications Directorate, Lieutenant General Vadim Shamarin, who was detained in May 2024 year.
According to British intelligence, Ogloblin's second arrest shows that "Russian authorities continue to vigorously pursue current and former defense officials appointed under former Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu on corruption charges, even after their initial convictions".
