At least five people were killed and more than 30 injured in a Russian air strike on the Ukrainian city of Izyum in the northeastern Kharkiv region on Monday, local authorities said. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky strongly condemned the attack, Reuters reported, BTA reported.
Previous figures were for four dead and 20 injured. A ballistic missile hit the center of Izyum. The city council building was partially destroyed. Damage was also caused to an apartment building.
"This brutality cannot be tolerated", Zelensky stressed in "Ex". He called for "maximum pressure on Russia - through military force, sanctions and diplomacy - to stop terror and protect people's lives".
Kharkiv region, which borders Russia, is often targeted by air strikes, Reuters notes.
Izyum was occupied by Russian forces at the start of the war nearly three years ago and suffered extensive damage. After the city was liberated, Ukrainian authorities said they had discovered mass graves and accused the enemy of war crimes - something Moscow denied, Reuters points out.
