Russia still sees no opportunity to resume negotiations with Japan on a peace treaty due to Tokyo's confrontational course. This was stated by Deputy Head of the Russian Foreign Ministry Andrei Rudenko in an interview with the newspaper "Izvestia".
„Off our Far Eastern shores, joint provocative military activity with the United States and other NATO member states is demonstrably intensifying. At the same time, Japan is providing direct material and technical assistance to the regime in Kiev. "In such conditions, we see no opportunity to renew negotiations with Tokyo to conclude a fundamental document that was supposed to become the basis for long-term good-neighborly relations," the high-ranking diplomat said.
Rudenko noted that after the start of the special military operation in February 2022, the Japanese government had "set out on the path of successive destruction of Russian-Japanese relations", the foundation of which was created through mutual efforts over decades.
„Tokyo has introduced 25 packages of illegitimate sanctions against our country. “Japanese public consciousness is being poisoned by Russophobic ideology through the efforts of politicians, state officials and national media“, he added.
The Deputy Minister stressed that the Russian Federation “has always treated the Japanese people, their rich history and culture with sincere respect and has strived for mutually beneficial cooperation“.
“We were not the first to start the spiral of confrontation“, he noted. - We should not take the first step towards each other. Normalization of interstate dialogue is impossible without Tokyo's rejection of its hostile anti-Russian policy, confirmed by concrete practical steps, which leads to the final destruction of our ties and the escalation of tensions in the Asia-Pacific region as a whole.
