US intelligence has concluded that Israel is considering large-scale strikes on Iranian nuclear facilities this year, seeking to take advantage of Tehran's weakening status, The Wall Street Journal reported, citing unnamed sources.
The finding was included in an analytical report prepared in the final days of former US President Joe Biden's administration. The document highlights the risks of further military activity in the region after Iran's capabilities were weakened in 2024.
Israel planned to seek support from the Donald Trump administration for such strikes, believing that he was more likely to support an attack than former President Joe Biden, two sources familiar with the intelligence work said.
In addition, the Israeli side fears that time is running out to prevent Tehran from developing nuclear weapons.
A second report echoing these findings was compiled in the early days of the Trump administration, a U.S. official said. Israel would need U.S. support, including munitions and technical assistance, to attack Iran's heavily fortified nuclear facilities, military experts said.
