Two earthquakes with a magnitude of 3.4 were recorded today in the Vrancea seismic zone in eastern Romania, Romanian media reported, citing the National Institute of Geophysics.
The first earthquake occurred in Vrancea County at 01:00. local (and Bulgarian) time, and the closest cities to its epicenter are Focsani (46 km west), Buzău (60 km north), Sfântu Gheorghe (66 km east), Brașov (76 km east) and Ploiești (91 km northeast). The earthquake was detected at a depth of 139.9 km.
The second earthquake, also with a magnitude of 3.4, was registered at 06:53 in Buzău County at a depth of 140 km. The earthquake is near the following cities: Focsani (51 km west), Buzău (52 km northwest), Sfântu Gheorghe (67 km southeast), Brașov (73 km east) and Ploiești (81 km northeast).
These two tremors follow a magnitude 4.2 earthquake registered last night in the same seismic zone.
Since the beginning of February, nine earthquakes with magnitudes between 2.4 and 4.4 have been registered in Romania.
The strongest earthquake in 2024 had a magnitude of 5.4 and was registered in Buzău on September 16, they recall the Romanian media.
