Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said that he would agree to meet in person with Russian President Vladimir Putin only after a general plan is agreed with US President Donald Trump, the Associated Press reported, quoted by BTA.
Zelensky believes that Trump is the key to ending the Russia-Ukraine conflict, and said that the US president gave him his phone number before the opening of the Munich Security Conference today.
This week, Trump broke with the long-standing firm support of the US for Ukraine after a phone call with Putin.
Zelensky is expected to meet with US Vice President J.D. Vance later. Many observers, especially in Europe, are hoping that Vance will shed some light on Trump's ideas for a negotiated settlement of the war.
Today in Munich, Vance lectured European officials on freedom of speech and illegal migration to Europe, warning that the EU risks losing public support if it does not change course quickly.
