The head of the Russian Direct Investment Fund (RDIF) Kirill Dmitriev said that US President Donald Trump is a problem solver. The statement was made ahead of today's Russian-US talks in Saudi Arabia, the first high-level face-to-face meeting between the two countries in years, Reuters reported, quoted by BTA.
"We really see that President Trump and his team are a team of people who know how to solve problems, people who have already started to quickly solve a number of major challenges very efficiently and very, very successfully", Dmitriev told reporters in Riyadh.
Russia said Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov would hold talks with an official US delegation led by Secretary of State Marco Rubio on Tuesday. The main subject of their discussions will be ending the war in Ukraine and restoring "the entire complex" of Russian-American relations.
The talks are aimed at paving the way for a meeting between the American and Russian presidents.
Dmitriev, a former banker from "Goldman Sachs" who graduated in the US, played a role in the first contacts between Moscow and Washington during Trump's first term as president from 2016 to 2020.
"It is very important to realize that American business lost about $300 billion by leaving Russia. So the current events, which are well known to everyone, are taking a huge economic toll, so we believe that the only way to make progress is by finding solutions," he said.
