US President Donald Trump said he could meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin this month and dismissed Kiev's concerns about the fact that it was not included in US-Russian talks in Saudi Arabia to end the war in Ukraine, Reuters reported, quoted by BTA.
"Probably", Trump said at the end of his press conference at "Mar a Lago" in Palm Beach, when asked if he expected to meet with Putin before the end of the month.
Trump spoke for the first time since the US delegation established a working dialogue with Russia on Ukraine with talks in Riyadh earlier in the day. He brushed aside Ukraine's concerns about being left out of the meeting, saying Kiev could have made a deal with Russia three years ago to prevent Moscow from invading.
"Today I heard, "Oh, we weren't invited." Well, you've been there for three years, you should have stopped the war... you shouldn't have started the war. You could have made a deal," Trump said.
Trump criticized Biden for his attitude toward Ukraine. Biden has worked to ensure that Ukraine has weapons to try to fight off Russian invaders.
"I think I have the power to end this war," Trump said.
The US president also said that elections should be held in Ukraine.
"This is not Russia's doing, this is something that comes from me and many other countries," he said.
Trump said he would not oppose the Europeans if they wanted to send peacekeeping troops to Ukraine to provide security guarantees in the event of a peace agreement, Reuters reported.
"Having troops there would be good, I wouldn't oppose, I wouldn't object at all," Trump told reporters at Mar-a-Lago in Palm Beach.
