A threatening email related to the changes in the country's constitution was received on his official email, the speaker of the parliament of the Republic of North Macedonia, Afrim Gashi, reported from his office, the media in the country, quoted by BTA.
Some of the publications cite the content of the email, which was allegedly received by Gashi, according to which changes in the constitution "will never happen", threats to the lives of those who try to submit them to the parliament for a vote, as well as an attack on the parliament itself, and Bulgarians are called fascists.
"The speaker of the parliament condemns most categorically all forms of threats and pressure on public office holders and remains committed to the principles of democracy and the rule of law", says the official statement from Gashi's office, from which they inform that in the "Cybercrime" sector The Ministry of Interior in the country has been notified of the case, which is being "worked on."
The threat was received after an interview with Afrim Gashi, broadcast yesterday on MRT1, for the program "360 degrees," where the Speaker of the Parliament of North Macedonia said that after the election of a new government in Bulgaria, it is possible to resolve the issue of including Bulgarians in the constitution, specifying that quick success cannot be expected.
"Looking at this problem through the prism of the common interest of the two countries and the two peoples, Macedonian and Bulgarian, in terms of regional security, I believe that it is in our common interest to approach the resolution of this dispute. In other words, to remove the Bulgarian veto on the start of our country's negotiations with the EU. I don't think Bulgaria is losing anything, on the contrary, I am convinced that they are winning, but we just need to wait a little for the tension to subside, for discussions to be held at the table (of negotiations) with arguments. For (the Bulgarians) to understand our context. And I think that if the US and Brussels help a little, I am convinced that we still need a little more time to untie this knot“, Gashi said in the interview.
The topic of changes to the constitution has again entered the media's interest in recent weeks, after a government was formed in Bulgaria, which Skopje was expecting with the intention of holding talks to discuss the proposal for changes to the constitution, which are a condition for the start of negotiations between North Macedonia and the EU, to enter into force not before the start, but after the end of the negotiations. Expectations were also focused on the meeting of the two foreign ministers of Bulgaria and North Macedonia on the sidelines of the Munich Security Conference, and the media reported on the statement of the Bulgarian Ministry of Foreign Affairs after the meeting, according to which Georgiev emphasized that Bulgaria's position regarding the European integration of the Republic of North Macedonia is clear and consistent and that the European compromise of 2022 (which in North Macedonia is called the "French proposal") includes a complex of measures and their full implementation is the only way forward.
"The inclusion of Bulgarians, on an equal footing with other peoples, in the constitution of the Republic of North Macedonia is only the first step, the implementation of which will allow Skopje to begin membership negotiations. Georgiev was categorical that renegotiating or circumventing the agreements reached, which the entire EU stands behind, is not possible," the Bulgarian Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement.
"We want a process that is predictable, with a clear beginning and a clear end. As a government, we will not accept any decision or compromise that would be made under duress or pressure. Every compromise must be consistent with the reality in which we live and with the European values that Europe constantly tells us about", said Timcho Mucunski, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade of North Macedonia, in a statement to MRT1.
