US President Donald Trump's special envoy for Ukraine Keith Kellogg arrived in Kiev on Monday to meet with President Volodymyr Zelensky and "listen", Reuters reported, quoted by BTA.
Kellogg's visit comes a day after the United States and Russia met in Riyadh without Ukraine to talk about ending the war.
“We will have an opportunity to have good, meaningful talks“, Kellogg said, adding that they will build on talks at the Munich Security Conference over the weekend.
“We understand the need for security guarantees,“ the special envoy said envoy to journalists and added that part of his mission would be to “sit and listen“.
Ukraine has repeatedly stressed that it needs security guarantees from the United States to deter Russia from launching a new invasion after a peace deal is negotiated, Reuters notes.
Zelensky postponed his visit to Saudi Arabia, which was planned for today, so as not to lend “legitimacy“ at yesterday's meeting between US and Russian officials in Riyadh.
Trump downplayed Ukraine's concerns that it had been left out of US-Russia talks to end the war and said Kiev could have made a deal with Russia sooner.
