US President Donald Trump said last night that Moscow "holds the cards" in negotiations to end the war in Ukraine, which began after the Russian invasion nearly three years ago, Agence France-Presse reported, quoted by BTA.
"I think the Russians want the war to end", Trump told the media aboard the presidential plane "Air Force One". "But I think they hold the cards to some extent, because they have seized a lot of territory", the US president added.
He confirmed to the media that he expects "soon" a visit from his French counterpart Emmanuel Macron, with whom he has disagreements over the settlement of the war in Ukraine.
According to Trump, Macron may arrive in Washington as early as Monday.
Trump added that he expects a visit from his Chinese counterpart Xi Jinping to the United States, but did not specify possible dates, Reuters notes.
According to Trump, a new trade agreement between China and the United States is possible, Kyodo notes. He is "considering perhaps 25 percent" tariffs on forest products imported into the United States.
Trump added that he will probably make an official announcement about these taxes after April 2.
The American president also said that he is talking to China about the TikTok application. Washington is trying to find a buyer for the popular social media, Reuters notes.
