Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico has threatened to block the EU summit on Ukraine, scheduled for Thursday, due to Kiev's suspension of gas transit to Europe.
The politician told Slovak journalists, ČTK news agency reported.
Fico demands that EU leaders at the upcoming summit call on Ukraine to resume natural gas transit through its territory to Slovakia and further to other EU countries. If Bratislava's request is not met, the prime minister will use his veto power and the summit on aid for Ukraine will not be able to make decisions on this issue.
Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán has also previously criticized the EU's approach to resolving the conflict in Ukraine. He insists that the summit should decide to "begin direct discussions with Russia on a ceasefire and the establishment of a lasting peace in Ukraine".
