China will work with "hard", not "peaceful" - as before, an approach to actions to return Taiwan, Chinese Premier Li Keqiang announced today in his report on behalf of the government, which opened the third annual session of the 14th National People's Congress in Beijing, Reuters reported, quoted by BTA.
"We will firmly advance in restoring China's unity and work together with our Chinese compatriots in Taiwan for the great cause of the second youth of the Chinese nation", Li wrote in the report distributed to delegates at the forum in the Great Hall of the People in the Chinese capital.
China considers the democratically self-governing island of Taiwan to be its territory, Reuters notes.
The call for reunification with Taiwan was in Li's report last year, but now the definition "firm" has been added at the expense of "peaceful" on the approach to progress in returning the island, the world agency explicitly states.
China will announce important political and economic goals for the current 2025, DPA reported, quoted by BTA.
According to information from Reuters, China plans to increase its military budget by 7.2 percent. The target economic growth is 5 percent - the same as for the previous year 2024.
One of the goals set in the report is to lower the average age of Chinese citizens in the context of an aging population, Reuters explains.
The annual meeting, which begins today with the presence of nearly 3,000 parliamentarians, is scheduled to last seven days.
Press conferences are planned for ministers to speak on various issues, including China's diplomacy, DPA adds.
