Two Bulgarian citizens were detained in Greece after they demanded a large sum of money from an elderly woman in Thessaloniki in connection with an alleged accident with her daughter, Greek state television ERT reported, quoted by BTA.

The two men, aged 25 and 30 respectively, were detained when they went to receive the sum of 73 thousand euros from the 75-year-old woman. However, she had sensed the deception and the police were informed to expect the fraudsters on site.

Earlier, their accomplices had called the victim with the story that her daughter had been injured in an accident and needed money for her treatment.

The investigation revealed 11 more similar cases of fraud, from which the detainees are accused of having fraudulently obtained over 70 thousand euros. It is believed that they were members of a criminal organization based in Bulgaria and acted as messengers for its leader, because they stayed in hotels in Thessaloniki and came only to receive the money.
