Hungary will not support the final document of the EU summit in Brussels on March 20-21 if it retains the reference to the accelerated accession of Ukraine to the community.

This was stated by Hungarian Minister for EU Affairs János Boka, who is participating in a meeting with European colleagues in Brussels.

“The draft final statement of the European Council meeting on the situation in Ukraine in its current form does not correspond to what the Hungarian government considers acceptable under the current circumstances“, Boka told reporters in Brussels.

“The fact that the text contains an indication of accelerating the process of Ukraine's accession to the European Union is problematic“, the minister was quoted as saying by MTI agency.

Earlier, a senior EU official told reporters in Brussels that differences remained between Hungary and the rest of the bloc over the wording of the final document on Ukraine being prepared for the summit. In this regard, he did not rule out that the statement on Ukraine, as at the previous meeting, would again be approved by the 26 countries without Hungary's participation.
