Russian drones hit two hospitals in Sumy region on the night of March 19, the State Emergency Service of Ukraine reported. The main strike was aimed at the Krasnopol hospital, where a fire broke out after the attack, forcing the evacuation of staff and patients, the BBC reports, BTA reports.
During the rescue operation, the hospital was hit again five times, which led to the partial destruction of the shelter, which housed 22 patients, including 7 with limited mobility. However, rescue teams managed to get everyone to safety, and according to initial reports, there were no casualties.
The Sumy Regional Military Administration said that one of the drones hit the roof of the Krasnopol Hospital at around 1:00 a.m. The authorities confirmed that no one was injured.
In the evening hours of March 18, another drone hit the roof of the Sumy Regional Clinical Hospital, causing damage to the building and to parked cars in the area. According to local authorities, there were no injuries.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky also reported the attacks and stressed that this was another attack on civilian infrastructure.
A highly publicized partial ceasefire in Ukraine, brokered by Donald Trump, collapsed shortly after the end of a phone call between the US president and Russian leader Vladimir Putin.
An hour after the call in which the two leaders agreed on a 30-day partial ceasefire, 40 Russian drones flew into Ukrainian airspace. They hit civilian targets, including a hospital in Sumy and a power substation in Slavyansk, Donetsk region.
"It is precisely such nighttime attacks by Russia that are destroying our energy, our infrastructure and the normal life of Ukrainians. And the fact that tonight was no exception shows that we must continue to put pressure on Russia for the sake of peace," Zelensky said.
Russian strikes also hit residential buildings in the Kyiv region. According to the National Police of Ukraine, the most serious damage was in the Buchansky district, where two people were injured and 35 buildings were damaged, including 20 two-story blocks of flats, 15 private houses and 19 cars.
Another drone hit a residential area in Boryspil, causing damage to another house.
According to the Kyiv City Administration, 45 "Shahed" drones were launched against the capital overnight, 19 of which were shot down by Ukrainian air defenses.
