The European Union will allocate €10 million to finance independent Ukrainian media in 2025.
7 million of this amount will be distributed through partner organizations, and the remaining three million through competitions. In total, since February 2022, the EU has spent €37 million on Ukrainian media.
At the end of February, it became known that due to the suspension of funding from the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), some Ukrainian media outlets have been closed.
The news of EU assistance sparked a reaction from Russia.
"The European Union does not understand the meaning of the word “independence“, while increasing funding for Ukrainian media". This was announced by the Permanent Representative of the Russian Federation to international organizations in Vienna, Mikhail Ulyanov, on his Telegram channel.
"The European Union has decided to increase funding for "independent Ukrainian media" by 10 million euros. I wonder how the European Union understands the meaning of the word "independent"?" he wrote.
