ISW: Russian Army Succeeds in Kursk Region, AFU in Toretsk and Pokrovsk  - 1

The situation on the front in Ukraine on March 28 continues to be complex and dynamic. Both Russian forces and the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) have made progress in several directions along the line of contact, writes the American Institute for the Study of War (ISW).

Russian forces have recently advanced in Kursk Region and in the northern part of Sumy Region. Geolocation footage released on March 27 shows that Russian forces have recently taken Gogolevka in Kursk Oblast and the Sudzha border checkpoint.

Additional geolocation footage released on March 25 shows that Russian forces have recently advanced near Basovka in Sumy Oblast.

The Ukrainian military continues limited attacks in Belgorod Oblast, but is not making progress.

The Russians continued offensive operations northeast of the city of Kharkiv near Volchansk, but are not making progress.

On March 27, Russian forces continue their advance in the Kupyansk direction, but are not making progress.

The Ukrainian Armed Forces recently made a light advance in the direction of Borove. Geolocation footage released shows Ukrainian forces have recently advanced east of Borove.

Russian forces have recently advanced in the direction of Liman. Geolocation footage released on March 27 shows Russian forces recently advancing southeast of Novoye (northeast of Liman).

Russia continues its advance in the direction of Seversk, as well as near the town of Chasov Yar - but is not making any progress.

Russian and Ukrainian forces have recently advanced in the direction of Toretsk. Geolocation footage released on March 26 shows Ukrainian forces recently advancing in the center of Alexandropol (southwest of Toretsk). Other footage shows Russian forces recently advancing north of Toretsk, in the center of Toretsk, and along "Sormovskaya“ Street in the south of the city.
