The Secretary-General of the Shiite group Hezbollah, Naim Qassem, has called on Israel to stop attacks on Lebanon and respect the ceasefire agreement, which includes the withdrawal of its troops from Lebanese territory.

“What Israel is doing now cannot be called a violation of the ceasefire, it is a continuation of unjustified aggression“, the politician said in a televised address broadcast by the Al-Manar channel.

“And we declare that we do not intend to tolerate this indefinitely“.

Qassem said that the Lebanese government must confront Israel through political and diplomatic means.

“If these efforts do not yield results and Israeli troops do not leave Lebanon, we will have no choice but to return to the previous options“, Qassem stressed.

Regarding the reconstruction of populated areas after military operations in the south of the country, the Hezbollah leader noted that Lebanese citizens “have the right to demand from the state to restore what the Israeli enemy destroyed“.

On March 28, the Israeli Air Force attacked suspected targets of the Shiite militia Hezbollah in southern Lebanon in response to the firing of two rockets at the northern Israeli town of Kiryat Shmona. The planes struck the southern suburb of the Lebanese capital, Hadassah. This was the first airstrike on Beirut since the ceasefire agreement brokered by France and the United States on November 27, 2024.
