The head of the Russian Direct Investment Fund Kirill Dmitriev may visit Washington this week to meet with the US President's special representative Stephen Witkoff, CNN reported, citing its sources.
This could be the first visit by a high-ranking Russian official to the US capital for talks since 2022. The meeting is said to be aimed at strengthening relations between Russia and the United States and finding ways to end the conflict in Ukraine.
In late March, Dmitriev told Izvestia that Russia and the United States had begun talks on rare earth projects.
According to CNN, the US government has lifted sanctions against Dmitriev so that the State Department can issue him a visa to enter the country.
There has been no official comment from the State Department or the White House at this time.
