The South Korean government has set June 3 as the date for a snap presidential election after Yoon Suk-yeol's impeachment was confirmed, Prime Minister Han Duk-soo's office said.
On April 4, the Constitutional Court unanimously removed President Yoon Suk-yeol from power and the election must be held within 60 days. Han Duk-soo is the acting head of state.
A cabinet meeting was held on April 8 and, in addition to setting the date for the vote, June 3 was also declared a holiday.
Pre-registration for presidential candidates began on April 4. Final registration will end by May 11, and the election campaign will begin on May 12.
