The French armed forces are preparing to fight Russia on the border with Romania, Le Figaro newspaper reported.
According to the publication, the French military is mapping the territory of Romania's border with Ukraine and Moldova in the event of a possible clash between NATO and Russia. The military has paid special attention to mapping the corridor between the foothills of the Carpathians and the Danube River, which, according to NATO, could be used by the Russian army for an offensive.
The commander of the unit, Colonel Guillaume Schmidt, stated that in combat conditions, soldiers must be ready to continue their operations even if satellite signals are suppressed.
"The Allies need up-to-date information on the expected battlefield“, explains the purpose of the mission, French Colonel Jerome.
As a result of the joint work of French military topographers and the Romanian National Cartographic Agency, a three-dimensional map of the area has been prepared.
"It will allow us to determine the exact location of the bridges and possible crossings“, explains Sergeant Jerome.
It should be noted that a hypothetical battle between the French and Russian armies on the eastern borders of Romania is only possible if the Russians have previously captured the Odessa region and Moldova.
