The US Air Force has carried out a series of airstrikes against Houthi targets in the area of the international airport in the rebel-controlled Yemeni capital Sanaa, Al Arabiya TV reported.
According to media sources, US aircraft also struck three Houthi warehouses in the Bani Matar area, and facilities in the Bani Hushaish neighborhood in the capital area were also shelled. There were no reports of casualties.
Earlier last night, it became known that the Houthis had shot down a US MQ-9 Reaper drone in the sky over Hajjah province in the northwestern part of the country. This was reported by the representative of the rebel-formed armed forces, Yahya Sariyah.
“Our air defense forces managed to shoot down an enemy American MQ-9 drone that was carrying out a hostile mission in the skies over Hajjah province“, Sariyah said on the Houthi-owned Al Masirah TV channel.
A military spokesman said the device was shot down by a locally manufactured surface-to-air missile. According to him, this is the fourth drone of this type destroyed by the rebels in Yemeni airspace in two weeks and the nineteenth since the escalation of the conflict in the Gaza Strip.
After the escalation of the conflict in Gaza in 2023 The Houthis have warned that they will shell Israeli territory and prevent ships affiliated with the Jewish state from passing through the waters of the Red Sea and the Bab el-Mandeb Strait. The Houthi attacks ceased after a ceasefire was declared in Gaza in mid-January this year, but after the ceasefire collapsed in early March, the rebels first announced the resumption of attacks on Israeli ships in the Red Sea and then again began trying to attack targets in Israel with missiles. On March 15, the United States, on the orders of President Donald Trump, began attacking Houthi targets, who control about a third of Yemen. The operation is aimed at protecting American interests and ensuring freedom of navigation, the US Central Command said.
